Capital Safety, a construction site safety company, desired to create a new fall harness system that provided optimum safety and convenience to the user.
Capital Safety partnered with Kablooe to develop the mechanical functionality and user touch points of the technology and move it from design, through testing, and into the commercial marketplace.

The ExoFit NEX® safety harness device enables the worker to comfortably and conveniently wear the highest level of fall protection, while enabling them to engage in their common workplace activities. The harness actually enhances their ability to engage in these activities while wearing a cool, lightweight, and comfortable safety device.
Solution
Kablooe saw an opportunity to improve the usability and ergonomics of the device while increasing safety, comfort and robustness.
Through extensive research and ideation, Kablooe developed a way for buckles, latches and compartments to be controlled with one hand from a stable and ergonomic position. Specific layering of moisture wicking materials and breathable fabrics, aligned with ergonomically designed shapes created more comfort for users than previous harnesses. Specific zones were given robust armored shells to prevent wear from rebar and tools where other harnesses would wear out. This previously caused harnesses to be retired early and often, driving up costs for the contractor.
Outcomes
The ExoFit NEX® became the number one selling harness for Capital Safety, and after a few years of sales Capital Safety was acquired by 3M’s Safety Division.
Construction site workers now have the peace of mind that they are wearing the safest and most robust harness to protect them from injury, all while being more comfortable and with an increased ability to perform job site tasks better.

The device won the 2010 IF Design Excellence Award and continues to lead the market for fall protection.
