New developments saving patients from surgery

Medical Design & Outsourcing has featured an exciting new development that has come up in regard to ingestible medical devices in the gastrointestinal tract. This is a common procedure where devices are inserted to treat, diagnose or monitor issues within the patient. The issue comes at the end, when the device needs to be removed and the patient has to undergo endoscopic surgery to remove it.

“The researchers tested the device in pigs and found that the hydrogel-based devices could be triggered to break down when exposed to blue or ultraviolet light from a small LED.”
